Max Spearfishing (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use maxspearfishing.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it.

What we collect
Information you give us directly
- Your email address, when you subscribe to our newsletter or download a free guide
- Your name, email address, billing address and order details, when you buy one of our digital guides
- Anything you send us through our contact form or by email
- Account details, if you create an account to access purchases
Information collected automatically
- Your IP address, browser type, device type and operating system
- Pages you visit, how long you stay, and which site referred you
- Approximate location, derived from your IP address
What we don’t collect
We do not collect or store your payment card details. Payments are processed by Stripe, who handle card data directly under their own privacy policy.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them in three ways.
Essential cookies keep the site working — remembering your shopping cart, keeping you logged in, and holding your cookie preferences. The site can’t function properly without these.
Analytics cookies help us understand which articles people read and where visitors come from, so we know what to write more of. We use Google Analytics.
Affiliate tracking cookies are the important one to understand, because of how this site is funded.
When you click a link to a retailer on our site, that retailer’s affiliate network sets a cookie in your browser. This tells them the visit came from us, so that if you buy something we’re credited with the referral. These cookies are set and controlled by third parties, not by us, and each operates under its own privacy policy:

We don’t see your personal details through these networks. We see aggregate reporting — how many clicks and sales came from which pages — not who you are or what else you bought.
Our site also sits behind Cloudflare, which sets cookies for security and performance purposes.
Managing cookies: you’ll be asked for your preferences on your first visit, and you can change them at any time. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site.

Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
We share data only with service providers who help us run the site, and only what they need:
- MailChimp — to send newsletters
- Stripe — to process payments
- Cloudways — to host the website
- Cloudflare — for security and content delivery
- Google Analytics — for traffic analytics
We may also disclose information if we’re legally required to, if we need to protect our rights or someone’s safety, or if the business is sold or transferred.
Where your data goes
We’re based in Australia. Our service providers are located in Australia, the United States and the European Union, which means your information may be transferred and stored outside your own country.
Where data is transferred out of the UK or EEA, we rely on the recipient’s own safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period to honour your unsubscribe
- Customer and order records: seven years, as required by Australian tax law
- Enquiries and correspondence: two years
- Analytics data: as configured in Google Analytics, typically 14 months
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what data we hold about you
- Correct anything that’s wrong
- Delete your data
- Stop sending you marketing
- Give you a copy of your data in a portable format
If you’re in the UK or EU, you also have the right to object to processing, to restrict processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you’re in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and disclosed, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. We won’t discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
If you’re in Australia, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data.

Marketing emails
We only email you if you’ve opted in. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
Our newsletters sometimes contain affiliate links. The same disclosure applies as on the site — see our Advertising Disclaimer.
Links to other sites
Our articles link to retailers, manufacturers and other websites. Once you click through, you’re on their site under their privacy policy, and we have no control over how they handle your data. Worth a read if you’re concerned.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use HTTPS across the site, keep our software updated, and limit access to personal data to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
